Vintage valentines are perhaps the best reminders of simpler days. Red and pink designs, lace borders and warm messages bring a dash of wholesome romance to the holiday. Jessica Russell of Itty Bitty Farmhouse wanted to cook up the sweetest message of all—a Valentine’s Day breakfast meant to be shared

They say that everything old is new again, and what better example than the recent return to cooking with cast iron? Easy-to-use, versatile and evocative of country style—and, of course, taste!—the cast-iron skillet has been around for centuries. But more importantly, cast-iron cookware links its users back to family and tradition.
Mountain Living
Atop the soaring hills of Montana’s Yellowstone Club sits Mountain Mama. Though the name of this mighty abode may evoke images of country roads vis-a-
vis songwriter John Denver, owner of Cashmere Interior and principal designer Charlene Petersen selected it to describe the house’s eclectic feeling. “I wanted a name that fit—something a little bit bohemian, a little bit hippie,” she laughs. But she also wanted to design a mountain house that could become a functional vacation home for a family.

Mother Nature is notoriously fickle—a surprise late frost can wither away a garden’s beautiful early blooms. Plus, some spring flowers are finicky things to boot. Too much sunshine and they fade; too much water, they expire. What’s a lover of flowers to do?
American Farmhouse Style
Finding a farmhouse-style home set against an inlet of Chesapeake Bay, rather than in the middle of a country town, might seem unusual. But for interior designer Keira St.Claire at Anthony Wilder Design/Build, farmhouses can fit any landscape.
Romantic Homes
Although usually found in storybook landscapes, especially in classic stories meant for children and set in some romantic and far-away place, the trope of the kindhearted and magnanimous uncle seems like just that, a fairytale character—not someone you might actually meet in real life. But this was not the case for homemaker Jamie Druke, who turned her late great-uncle’s New England house into a home for her family.

Pastels aren’t just for Easter. With summer in full swing, skip the routine July color palette and craft a gorgeous pastel summer luncheon around floral centerpieces. “In a world where we all have too many things, one of my favorite ways to celebrate someone special is spending time with them over delicious food and a gorgeous tablescape,” says blogger and author Courtney Whitmore of Pizzazzerie.com.

When you’re considering how to craft your farmhouse kitchen, Hawaiian and bohemian vibes aren’t likely to spring to mind. But for photographer, marketing consultant and environmental advocate Elana Jadallah of Elanaloo and her partner, Aaron, drawing on the natural bounty around their home in Hawaii made perfect sense. “Some people think rustic when they think of a farmhouse aesthetic, but it’s also about pulling from nature,” Elana says.
"[Jo] did not think herself a genius by any means, but when the writing fit came on, she gave herself up to it with entire abandon, and led a blissful life, unconscious of want, care, or bad weather, while she sat safe and happy in an imaginary world, full of friends almost as real and dear to her as any in the flesh."
